Bearmaker, soft toy artist

I have been making all manner of fabric animals for over 25 years, teaching myself I started off making a toy for my son when he was 3 years old. People started asking me to make a toy for them and before I knew it I was selling my creations and in the 1980"s I was supplying Woolworths, Farmers in Auckland and also Toyworld with hound dogs and rabbits by the dozen until I got thoroughly bored with the repetitive nature of this work.

Over the years I have had time to perfect my teddies and toys to the highest quality.I have  won the N.Z. National title and many other contests and have sent my teddy bears around New Zealand and overseas to collectors.   In 2008 I won the Wairarapa Bear Show and gained a second place in the World Wide Steiff Bear Contest in Germany.

Working from my home overlooking the Whangarei harbour,  I use mostly recycled fabrics which I shape, hand dye and paint to achieve truly unique teddy bears and other animals which are all one off originals.   I frequently work on commission and  in 2007 I designed and created cacodylic hand puppets for the Northland Hospital Board to  promote the Hand Washing Programme in Northland schools and kindergartens.  All enquiries are welcome and I thank THE BACH at the Town Basin Whangarei for including me in their gallery.
